Pajamas + Jam

Eatery ● Living ● Heirlooms

Are you looking for something different, somewhere special to take your friends or family for a special occasion, or a place to spoil yourself? Look no further Pajamas + Jam is the place to go to.

From the road, you would not realize the taste bud explosion you are about to experience. With dark black walls in a semi-industrial area in Strand, you are entering an antique piece of heaven on earth. The smell of freshly brewed coffee greets you at the door with a counter filled with freshly baked bread, muffins, cakes, and bakes all lined up to make your choice almost impossible. Mouth-watering fudge and homemade jams are ready for your take-me-home purchase.

The restaurant décor is vintage with a touch of modern flare where you can see into the cake decoration, etc. sections. The décor includes old books, typewriters, a bicycle, and even an old pram. The shop is stocked with flowers, homeware, clothing, pantry items, and heirlooms.

I found the menu different and out of this world. Each dish has a twist of something new or exciting and is nicely plated. My flat white was served on a wooden board, giving you an African feel.

I felt a bit adventurous and tried something new. I opted for the Goats Cheese Eggs. The adventure part was the braaibroodjie on a garlic and herb ciabatta with fluffy and creamy scrambled eggs. My friend chose the Green Winters Omelette filled with honey bacon, goat’s cheese, spinach, camembert, caramelized leeks, and pesto green peas with the most delicious toasted butternut and feta bread.

Next followed a taste of pure happiness. Making a hard choice between all the cakes and cheesecakes, I chose a fudge with chocolate pieces cheesecake and a milk tart cheesecake for my friend. Honestly, this was one of the best cheesecakes we have ever tasted. The fudge melts in your mouth. The cheesecake is the perfect combination of rich and velvety with just enough caramel on both flavors. The special occasion was rounded off with a chai latte and a self-mix Mimosa. I just loved the presentation.

Do not forget to stock up on fudge, freshly baked bread, or homemade jams while settling your bill at the counter. Choose between apricot and lemon, strawberry, guava, and ginger – naming only a few variants – available in small, medium, and large sizes. If you have a furry friend, do not forget to get them some freshly baked doggie biscuits.

Overall, the coffee, food, and service were excellent. I would highly recommend a visit to Pajamas + Jam. I suggest you book a table as it can get busy during the morning rush and over lunchtime (no bookings on Saturdays – so go early).
